Chelsea one win from title

Jose Mourinho’s men found themselves 1-0 down to a Marc Albrighton goal at half-time, but they came out with much more pace and purpose after the break and goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry and Ramires turned the game on its head.

The Chelsea fans were now in full voice, sarcastically singing “boring, boring, Chelsea” in response to the Arsenal fans' chants after the 0-0 draw on Sunday.

There was nothing boring about Chelsea's third goal, though, as they turned on the style.

Cesc Fabregas danced his way down the right flank and cut the ball back for Ramires, who still had a lot to do, but he found the top corner with a bullet of a strike from the edge of the area to put Chelsea on the cusp of a first title for five years.

Jurgen Klopp would do well in Premier League - Per Mertesacker

Jurgen Klopp would be very well suited to managing in the Premier League, says Arsenal defender and fellow German Per Mertesacker.

Klopp, 47, will end a seven-year stint in charge of Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Mertesacker, 30, said: "His passion would fit and to see him in England would be very interesting.

"It would be nice if a German coach would take the challenge of working in the Premier League."

Klopp has coached Dortmund since 2008, taking them to two league titles and the Champions League final in 2012-13, but they are 10th in the Bundesliga this season.

Mertesacker added: "Everyone has their philosophy and Jurgen Klopp has proved he's top level and can teach a lot."

Klopp has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger's continued stay with the Gunners has ruled that out in the short term.

"It's not so good for Dortmund that he is leaving, but hopefully one day he will manage abroad," Mertesacker said.

"I am curious what happened to him because he was an outstanding figure in the Bundesliga in the last couple of years and always a title contender.

"It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer."

Sunderland 1-0 Newcastle: 'More to Defoe display than wonder goal'

Jermain Defoe's brilliant winner against Newcastlehas made the headlines but it was the less spectacular parts of his performance that stood out for me.

When I realised his starting position was on the right wing in a 4-3-3 formation, I was surprised to say the least.

I know Jermain well from training and playing with and against him, and he does not particularly like playing in those wide areas - he certainly did not enjoy it back in the day.

That is understandable because he is a goalscorer and he lives off the goals he gets. He does not normally like being in areas of the pitch where he cannot affect the game in a positive way.

But obviously he was asked to play a different role by Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat because of their circumstances and he did a brilliant job for the team.

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson frustrated after FA Cup draw with Blackburn

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson admits criticism is inevitable following Sunday's goalless draw against Blackburn Rovers.

The Championship side earned a replay with a dogged display at Anfield but Liverpool's inability to break them down led to grumbles among a section of their supporters.

Liverpool are unbeaten in the league since New Year's Day and were expected to comfortably advance to the semi-finals at the expense of Gary Bowyer's side, but Johnson said: "That's football.

You aren't going to play to the best of your ability in every game. Whether you play well or not, the most important thing is that you don't go out the cup.

We're still in the draw and we can still win the tie. It was frustrating. Everyone wanted to win the game but the most important thing is that we're in the hat for the semi-finals.

'Confident'

"You've got to give Blackburn a lot of credit because they worked hard. They got men behind the ball. Hopefully we'll play better in the replay and get the win we want.

"The fixture list isn't too crowded for us now so having a replay isn't a big problem. We've got plenty of time on the training ground in between matches to work on things now.

"We're still confident we can go through. Hopefully we can pick up our performance and go through in the replay."

And Johnson believes the patchy state of the Anfield pitch played a part in his side's off-colour display but refused to use that as an excuse.

"It slowed us down a bit but we just didn't play to our best," he added. "That happens sometimes. They played well and made it tough.

"Without doubt it's the worst it's been during my time at Liverpool but it's the same pitch for both sides. You have to watch your touch more because it bobbles so much and it's harder for the likes of Philippe and Raheem to dribble with the ball.

"It slows everything down because the bounce is so irregular. It's different every time. It takes a bit more concentration and it's harder to play one-touch football which is what you need to open these teams up from
